Spanish giants Barcelona on Wednesday officially announced the signing of Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on a free transfer from English club Arsenal.

Aubameyang signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Catalan club until June 2025, with an option to terminate the contract at the end of next season and a buy-out clause set at 113 million U.S. dollars.

Arsenal issued a statement on Tuesday night confirming the departure of the 32-year-old by mutual consent.

“We wish Auba all the best for the next chapter in his career and thank him for his contribution to the club.”

Aubameyang joined Arsenal in January 2018 and made 163 appearances for the London side scoring 92 goals in all competitions.

He posted an emotional goodbye message on social media on Tuesday thanking Arsenal fans for supporting him during his time in London.

“Having the chance to win trophies and the honour of being the captain of this club is something I will forever keep in my heart.”

“I have always been 100 per cent focused and committed on doing everything I can for this club which is why leaving without a real goodbye hurts – but that is football.”

“I’m sad I did not get the chance to help my teammates in the last few weeks, but I have nothing but respect for this club and truly wish all my guys and the fans all the best and many successful years in the future! Love, Auba.”
