Cameroon and Senegal kept alive their hopes of participating in the 2023 Women’s World Cup after winning their respective playoff matches in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Ajara Nchout scored the only goal of the game as Cameroon defeated Botswana 1-0 at the Stade Prince Moulay Al Hassan in Rabat while Senegal beat Tunisia 4-2 on post-match penalties after the game had ended goalless at the Complexe Sportif Mohammed V in Casablanca.

Victory guaranteed Cameroon and Senegal the continent’s two spots in the inter-confederation playoffs for the World Cup which so far includes Chinese Taipei, Haiti, Panama and Thailand. Four more nations – from South America, Oceania and Europe – are yet to qualify for the playoffs to complete the lineup.

Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa and Zambia already qualified directly for the World Cup by reaching the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The inter-confederation playoffs of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification will take place in February next year and determine the final three qualification spots for the tournament.

The playoffs will feature ten teams split into three groups, with the winner of each group qualifying for the World Cup.
