Namibia defeated Zimbabwe by 32 runs in the fifth and final match of their T20I series in Bulawayo to claim a 3-2 series victory, its first series win against a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Zimbabwe is one of only two full members of the ICC in Africa, along with South Africa, and 12 globally.
A full member is a governing body for cricket of a country recognized by the ICC, or nations associated for cricket purposes, or a geographical area, from which representative teams are qualified to play official Test matches.
Craig Williams top scored for Namibia with 48 runs as the visitors posted 127-8 and Gerhard Erasmus managed figures of 2 for nine, the best among Namibia’s bowlers.
As for Zimbabwe’s reply, Tony Munyonga led the way with 28 as the hosts were bowled out for just 95, their second-lowest T20I total. Wessley Madhevere, Zimbabwe’s top batter in the series, and Luke Jongwe took 2-15 and 2-16, respectively, while Brad Evans grabbed his first T20 wicket.
The Eagles’ win further cements the progress Namibia has made in the cricket format becoming Africa’s second-best team, behind South Africa.
They also secured automatic qualification for the first stage of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia which starts in October.
