The match, initially set to take place on December 23, had been rescheduled after Gor Mahia had requested CAF to have the game moved forward due to inadequate preparations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Midfielder Amir Sayoud scored a hat-trick, including a penalty, while strikes from Hamza Bellahouel, Larbi Tabti and Maecky Ngombo earned the hosts a convincing win.

The Algerians were quick off the blocks racing into a 3-0 lead after just 20 minutes with Sayoud netting a brace which sandwiched Bellahouel’s goal.

Tabti then added a fourth two minutes before the break to put the hosts out of sight of the visitors.

Sayoud then completed his hat-trick just six minutes into the second half and Ngombo rounded off the scoring midway through the half.

The second leg of the tie is set to take place on January 6 at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

The final game of the first legs is set to take place on Monday when Algeria’s MC Alger host Tunisian side CS Sfaxien.
