Botswana will extend its COVID-19 vaccinations to persons aged 30 years and above as it continues to inoculate its population against the virus.
A notice issued by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Dr Christopher Nyanga, said the vaccines that are currently being offered are the Chinese-manufactured Sinovac and AstraZeneca.
Dr Nyanga noted that the recently received Johnson & Johnson vaccines are still undergoing due diligence before being rolled out for public use.
Botswana rolled out its mass COVID-19 vaccination drive in March, initially targeting persons considered to be at high risk, including the elderly, healthcare workers and persons with underlying health conditions.
So far, more than 384,000 people have received at least one jab of the life-saving vaccines.
The Southern African country has recorded 176,427 COVID-19 infections with 2,360 fatalities.
