The number of COVID-19 infections in Angola rose beyond the 55,000 mark on Monday after the health ministry announced 326 new cases from 2,501 tests conducted over the past 24 hours.
The Southern African country has now registered a total of 55,121 COVID-19 cases from a total of 986,534 samples processed.
Of the new cases recorded, 186 are men while 140 are women. The oldest patient is aged 102 years while the youngest is aged just five months.
In the same period, 14 new fatalities were recorded, taking the country’s total number of virus-related deaths to 1,501.
According to Angola’s health ministry, the country currently has 6,347 active COVID-19 cases. Among the active, 43 patients are in critical conditions, 49 are in serious conditions, 171 have moderate symptoms, 86 have mild symptoms while 5,998 patients are asymptomatic.
The country has embarked on a nationwide vaccination drive to contain the further spread of the virus. So far, more than 1.7 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered.
