The Egyptian side will be aiming for a record-extending eighth title while the Moroccan side will be targeting a third title to go joint-third on the all-time list with TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

This will be fourth straight CAF Super Cup match to be staged in Qatar, who will host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the first World Cup to be hosted in the Middle East.

Prior to the switch to Qatar, the CAF Super Cup had been hosted by the Champions League winners, resulting in them winning 21 of 23 matches between 1996 and 2018.

However, in 2019 and 2020, the Confederation Cup winners, Raja and Zamalek, respectively, lifted the trophy.

A CAF official previously said hosting the game outside Africa was geared towards helping “broaden the appeal” of the Super Cup.
