Zimbabwe on Tuesday received a second shipment of Sinopharm vaccines to help it continue its mass COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The Air Zimbabwe plane carrying the vaccines touched down at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in the morning hours with 344,000 doses comprising 200,000 donated by China and 144,000 purchased by the Zimbabwean government.

The Southern African country received its first batch of the Chinese-manufactured jabs in February when China donated 200,000 shots to Harare.

In total, China has now donated 400,000 doses to Zimbabwe this year.

Zimbabwe’s health authorities rolled out mass COVID-19 vaccination last month in efforts to contain the virus.

The vaccination drive has prioritized healthcare workers and groups considered at high risk.
