Zambia resumes COVID-19 vaccination program

Zambia on Wednesday resumed the second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination program.

Kennedy Malama, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health in charge of Technical Services, who launched the resumption of the program, urged all those eligible to get vaccinated.

He said the second phase will initially target people who participated in the first phase for their second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine before involving those who did not participate in the first phase.

He assured that the government will secure more vaccines to ensure that all those eligible get the vaccine.

The first phase was launched on April 14. Zambia is targeting to vaccinate 8.4 million people above the age of 18 years.

Meanwhile, the country recorded 3,367 new cases in the last 24 hours. The cases were picked from 12,952 tests bringing the cumulative cases to 137,026.

And 50 people died during the same period, bringing the total deaths to 1,794.
