The winning works of the first “Great to Meet You” China-Africa Youth Video Contest were announced on Sept 10.
Among the 102 entries in the competition, a total of 3 works won the first prize, 6 works won the second prize, and 10 works won the third prize.
The “Great to Meet You” China-Africa Youth Video Contest is a collaboration between CMG Africa and the College of Media and International Culture at Zhejiang University.
A special advisory panel and a professional jury panel were invited from the heads of mainstream African media and China’s experts to evaluate the entries.
The contest aims to build a platform for Chinese and African youth to exchange and learn from each other with short video creations, showcase the vigor and vitality of youth from both sides, and promote sustainable development of the China-Africa friendship.
The theme of the China-Africa Youth Video Creators Competition was “China-Africa Youth Work Together to Build a China-Africa Community with a Shared Future in a New Era”.
Launched on July 25, the contest attracted entries from young people in China and African countries. The contributions from the African region were received from Kenya, Benin, Angola, Tanzania, Djibouti, Cameroon, Madagascar, Mauritius, Nigeria, Mozambique, among other countries.
Under the lenses of the young entrants, every frame is full of the positive attitude of the youth group towards China-Africa friendship and China-Africa cooperation.“A Journey To Rica” won the first prize of the contest.
The first prize work ” A Journey To Rica ” tells the story of Ma Lewen, a Botswana girl who walked into the terraced fields of Heishan, Lianshan County, Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province, before leaving China. By writing a letter to her grandmother in Africa, she told how she was here. Her experiences and thoughts on the development of China’s rural areas in the new era, the pulse and warmth jumped on the screen.
The special consultants and judges of the competition were deeply impressed by the vitality embodied in the works, especially the vitality not only of the youth crowd, but also of the vitality of China-Africa cooperation.
One of the organizers of this competition, Wei Lu, Dean of College of Media & and International Culture, Zhejiang University, highly praised the contest for bringing together young people to build a China-Africa community with a shared future, and becoming an important platform for Chinese and African youth to continue China-Africa friendship and tell Chinese stories well.
“In particular, seeing Chinese youth and African youth partners start a business together, eat African street food together, work hard and grow together, I feel very warm, and I deeply feel the friendship between Chinese and African youth,” said Wei.
