Uganda’s health ministry on Sunday reported 96 new COVID-19 infections from a sample size of 5,090 tests conducted, taking the country’s total caseload to 126,171.

No new fatalities were recorded, meaning the East African country’s number of virus-related deaths remains at 3,215.

Uganda’s government is currently undertaking a nationwide vaccination drive in efforts to contain further spread of the virus.

By Sunday, the country had administered 3,084,483 doses of vaccines.

The health ministry expects to inoculate 4.8 million people by the end of 2021.

The country has seen a decline in infections, prompting President Yoweri Museveni late last month to ease anti-coronavirus restrictions, including allowing resumption of education for universities and other post-secondary institutions.
