Among the new cases were two Ugandan truck drivers who came into the country from neighbouring Kenya through the Malaba point of entry.

The ministry reported seven additional COVID-19-related deaths taking the total to 245 while the number of recoveries rose by 85 to stand at 10,731.

The ministry also reiterated its call to all asymptomatic COVID-19 patients to remain at home in order to avoid the spread of the virus.

“80 percent of our patients are asymptomatic. For our home care, we have been recommending Vitamin C, Zinc, azythromycin and urge them to eat fruits, drink a lot and exercise regularly. We encourage the asymptomatic to stay at home even if you’re strong and energetic,” Director General of Health Services Dr. Henry Mwebesa said.

Authorities have previously expressed concern over reports that asymptomatic patients were violating health protocols and mixing with the rest of the community.

Asymptomatic patients are persons who have tested positive for COVID-19 but have not developed symptoms. Despite not exhibiting any symptoms, they are still able to spread the virus.

Uganda has reported a steady increase in the number of coronavirus cases in the last few months with the ministry blaming the phenomenon on complacency by citizens and persistent violation of existing health protocols.
