Kenya has now administered more than thirteen million COVID-19 vaccines, with more than six million people fully vaccinated.

According to the latest data from the health ministry, a total of 13,134,929 doses had been administered by Friday. Of these, 6,014,919 people have been fully inoculated while 6,773,782 people are partially vaccinated.

The East African country rolled out its mass vaccination drive in March 2020, initially targeting persons considered to be at high risk, including healthcare workers, the elderly, persons with underlying health conditions and security personnel.

The vaccination campaign has been complemented by other containment measures, including a mandatory wearing of face coverings.

The Kenyan government is aiming to administer at least 20 million vaccine doses between January and June 2022.

This is part of a plan to fully vaccinate 19 million adults (70 percent of the adult population) by end of June 2022 and the entire adult population of 27 million people by the end of the year.

During the same period, it will also aim to fully vaccinate 2.9 million teenagers aged 15-17 years (50 percent of the population) and the entire teenage population of 5.8 million by end of December 2022.

So far, Kenya has recorded 321,922 COVID-19 infections with 5,604 fatalities.
