According to the World Health Organization 2021 report on hearing, Africa is likely to see the highest percentage increase in numbers of people with hearing loss. The WHO also estimates that Globally, 1 in 4 people will be affected by some form of hearing loss in the next few decades.
The International Week of the Deaf 2021 was celebrated in the last week of September. This years theme is ‘Celebrating thriving deaf communities’ and has been set aside to highlight the endurance of Deaf people around the world.
On this week’s show, we look at some of the causes of hearing loss, challenges faced by the Deaf community and ways they can be addressed.
