Nigeria may end its ban on twitter in a “few more days,” more than three months after the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture suspended the social media platform from operating in the country.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Information Minister Lai Mohammed at a post-cabinet media briefing.
“If the operation has been suspended for about 100 days now, I can tell you that we’re just actually talking about a few, just a few more days now,” Reuters quotes Mohammed.
“It’s just going to be very, very soon, just take my word for that,” he added.
The Nigerian government suspended Twitter on June 4 after it removed a post by President Muhammadu Buhari that threatened to punish regional sessessionists.
In a statement at the time, Mohammed cited “the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.”
Last month, the minister told Reuters the Twitter suspension would be removed before the end of the year, adding that the government was only waiting for response from the social media platform on three requests made.
