Kenya on Sunday reported 719 new COVID-19 infections, taking its total case tally to 62,488.

The latest figures were announced in a press briefing by the ministry of health, where officials also announced eight new deaths to take the country’s fatalities to 1,111.

Kenya is one of only nine countries in Africa that have registered more than 60,000 COVID-19 cases.

The country has seen a recent resurgence of cases, prompting President Uhuru Kenyatta to announce stricter measures in efforts to curb further spread of the virus.

In an address to the nation earlier this week, Kenyatta extended a nationwide curfew to 3 January and ordered all elderly government officials to work remotely from home.
