Kenya’s fight against COVID-19 received a boost on Thursday thanks to an additional 182,400 AstraZeneca vaccine doses.

Kenya received the vaccines from France through COVAX.

“We have recently embarked on vaccinating our people for the second dose, so this comes at a critical time,” said Dr. Willis Akhwale, Kenya’s Ministry of Health Chairman of COVID-19 Vaccine Deployment Taskforce.  “It will ensure our health workers, teachers and other essential workers are protected, and that our health centres countrywide can continue providing vital care to people affected by COVID-19.”

French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to give 60 million doses of vaccine to countries in need around the world, including Kenya, before the end of 2021.

So far, Kenya has vaccinated 1,511,693 people against COVID-19.
