Kenya COVID-19 cases approach 300,000

Kenya’s ministry of health announced Monday that 1,223 people tested positive for COVID-19 pushing the cumulative total of COVID cases to 299,732.

According to the ministry, the 1,223 people that tested positive came from a sample size of 4,003 tested in the last 24 hours.

At the same time, the ministry announced that 2,436 people recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 256,551. The death toll stands at 5,394 after 10 people succumbed to the virus.

The positivity rate in the country currently stands at 30.6 percent.

As of January 1, a total of 10,121,263 vaccines had been administered across the East African country.

Of these, 5,871,177 were partially vaccinated while those fully vaccinated were 4,215,806, according to the ministry.
