Gabon’s first lady Sylvia Bongo Ondimba on Friday launched in capital Libreville the 8th edition of the “Pink October” campaign, an awareness campaign for women’s cancers.
Accompanied by the Minister of Health, Guy Patrick Obiang, Sylvia Bongo Ondimba inaugurated this year’s national campaign on women’s cancers, in Agondje General Hospital-Libreville Cancer Institute, dedicated to the fight against breast and cervical cancer.
Held every year around the world, the “Pink October” campaign is one of the key annual opportunities to raise awareness on women’s cancers, promote early detection, hear patient’s stories, engage the broader public and raise funds.
The Sylvia Bongo Ondimba Foundation has been taking a very active part in promoting this campaign across the country. On the occasion of this new edition in 2021, the foundation took it to the next level by building a pink village on the campus of Gabon’s University of Health Sciences, a support group that also offers free breast cancer tests.
The pink village is “totally free” and will move to the universities in other provinces of the country, said Gabon’s first lady on Twitter.
