The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the African continent reached 3,822,470 as of Sunday evening, according to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
The agency’s COVID-19 dashboard showed that the number of COVID-19-inflicted deaths in Africa has reached 101,053.
A total of 3,375,490 people infected with COVID-19 have so far recovered across the continent, the agency said.
South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and Ethiopia are the countries worst affected by COVID-19 in Africa in terms of the number of confirmed cases, according to the Africa CDC.
South Africa has reported the highest COVID-19-inflicted deaths in Africa at 48,940, while Egypt and Morocco recorded the second and third most deaths, at 10,298 and 8,548, respectively.
The African Union has emphasized that the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic “is not just a severe health emergency, it is also a grave economic and social crisis.”
