The Speaker of the Zambian parliament on Saturday confirmed that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
Patrick Matibini however dispelled reports in some sections of the media that he was currently in a critical condition and on oxygen.
“Countrymen and women, some of you may have heard that I have been found to be COVID-19 positive. Yes it is true,” he said in a release.
While revealing that he has symptoms, the speaker said he was currently being managed from home, considering the large need for severe patients requiring health facility management, adding that he has made progress in his recovery.
He urged citizens to take the pandemic seriously during the second wave which was spreading rapidly, adding that the control and prevention of COVID-19 require national unity.
Zambia is currently in the second wave of the pandemic which has shown severity in its form and has resulted in increased cases.
