Uganda’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), a main gauge for inflation, decreased to 1.9 percent in the year ending August 2021, down from 2.1 percent in July 2021, the country’s statistics agency said on Tuesday.
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) attributed the decrease to the reduction in transportation charges and low activities in recreation, sports and culture.
Kaudha Lubega, head of macroeconomic statistics at the UBOS told reporters here that annual transport inflation decreased to 7.3 percent for the period under review, down from 10.7 percent in July 2021.
The annual inflation for Recreation, Sport and Culture decreased to minus 0.3 percent in August 2021, down from 0.7 percent and Personal Care, Social Protection and Miscellaneous Goods decreased to 1.8 percent in August 2021, down from 2.2 percent in July 2021.
Kaudha said the core inflation for the 12 months to August 2021 decreased to 2.2 percent down from 2.5 percent in July 2021.
This is attributed to annual services inflation that decreased to 2.5 percent in August 2021 down from 4.0 percent in July 2021.
