South Africa will play Australia in the opening fixture of the second round of the Men’s T20 World Cup – the Super12s stage – on October 23 in Abu Dhabi.
South Africa and Australia are part of Group 1 in the Super 12s, along with England, West Indies and two qualifiers from the first round of games.
After facing West Indies on October 26, South Africa will conclude the group stage with a game against England on November 6 in Sharjah.
Group 2 will get underway with a titanic clash between bitter rivals India and Pakistan on October 2 in Dubai.
The group stage will conclude with a game on November 8 pitting India against the second-placed Round 1 qualifier from Group A.
The tournament, however, will begin with a Round 1 Group B encounter between hosts Oman and Papua New Guinea on October 17, with Scotland and Bangladesh, the other teams in Group B, facing off later in the day.
Another African side, Namibia, will be in Group A in Round 1 alongside Ireland, Netherlands and Sri Lanka. Namibia will open its campaign against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi on October 18. The subsequent games will see Namibia face Netherlands on October 20 and Ireland on October 22.
The Round 1 matches will conclude on October 22 and the top two from each group will qualify for the Super 12s, where they will join the top eight ranked T20I teams.
The first round of the T20 World Cup will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman while the Super12s will be held in the UAE.
The top two teams from the Super12s groups will meet in the semifinals which will take place on November 10 and 11 in Abu Dhabi and Dubai respectively, while the final will be staged in Dubai on November 14 with November 15 marked as a reserve day.
The T20 World Cup was initially supposed to be held in Australia last year but was then postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was then scheduled be hosted by India but, yet again, COVID-19 complications prompted a change of venue.
