Egyptian giants Al Ahly defeated high-flying Pyramids F.C. 2-1 on Sunday at the Cairo International Stadium to advance to the semifinals of the Egypt Cup.

Playmaker Mohamed Áfsha’ Magdy set up strikes in either half for Taher Mohamed and Hossam Hassan for the Red Devils, who held on despite a late penalty by Ramadhan Sobhi for Pyramids F.C.

Al Ahly will now face second-division side Petrojet FC in the semifinals with a final against bitter rivals Zamalek in the final a possibility.

Despite the shock exit of South African manager Pitso Mosimane two weeks ago, the club remains on course to challenge for silverware this season.

Al Ahly remains third in the Egypt Premier League, trailing leaders Zamalek by just four points with three matches in hand.

They will also be targeting a record-extending 11th CAF Champions League title when the competition kicks off later this year with the preliminary rounds.
