South Africa has administered 15,447,034 COVID-19 vaccine doses, the highest tally recorded in Africa so far.
The country ramped up its vaccinations as it seeks to contain further spread of the virus in order to fully reopen its economy.
By Wednesday, the number of fully vaccinated people had reached 7,609,183.
The latest data by the Department of Health show that the country has so far recorded 2,869,202 COVID-19 infections with 85,468 deaths.
The figures account for 35.44 percent of Africa’s total virus load and 41.73 percent of its death toll.
South Africa has so far conducted 17,191,349 tests. From the country’s total infections recorded, 2,700,299 people have fully recovered.
