South Africa has inoculated more than 2 million people against coronavirus.
As at June 19, The Health Ministry reported that 2,137,071 people have received the vaccines so far.
SABC reports that of these, more than 479,000 have received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine and are fully vaccinated. The remaining 1.6 million have received the first dose of the two jab Pfizer vaccine.
The number of administered J&J vaccines is expected to increase steeply in the coming days as more than 580,000 school staff are expected to get vaccinations in the coming two weeks.
Department of Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga on Saturday announced that vaccination roll out in schools will commence on Wednesday June 23 and run until July 8.
South Africa has thus far recorded more than 1.8M positive coronavirus cases and more than 58,000 deaths.
