Zimbabwe will tour Sri Lanka next month for a three-match One-Day International (ODI) Series at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

The series, which will run from January 16-21, is part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League.

The last time both sides played in the league was September with Zimbabwe drawing 1-1 with Ireland while Sri Lanka defeated South Africa 2-1.

Zimbabwe head coach Lalchand Rajput said he was confident his side could beat Sri Lanka given the good game time picked up from the country’s domestic competition.

“Every game is very important for us because Super League games will decide who can qualify automatically, hence it is important that we prepare well and start well,” Rajput said.

The Super League serves as a qualifier the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. The top eight teams qualify directly for the tournament, while the remaining five teams will be pooled with five Associate teams in a qualifying tournament. Two teams will then advance to the World Cup from that tournament.

Zimbabwe is currently bottom of the 13-team league having picked up two victories from nine games and is tied on 25 points with the Netherlands, who have played five matches fewer, however.

Sri Lanka is sixth in the league with 42 points having played 15 matches winning four of them.
