The Premier League game between Everton and Manchester City, initially scheduled for Monday, has been postponed following positive COVID-19 tests in the Citizens’ squad.

Both clubs confirmed the development just hours before the game’s kick off time at Goodison Park.

“After the latest round of COVID-19 testing, the club returned a number of positive cases, in addition to the four already reported on Christmas Day,” Manchester City said in a statement.

“Based on strong medical advice the Premier League, in consultation with both clubs, have decided to postpone the fixture.”

The club said all the players and staff who tested positive would go into self-isolation in accordance with the health protocols.

The first team training ground at City Football Academy was also announced closed for an indeterminate period, with a new round of testing planned before a decision is made on the resumption of training.
